ASGA IN PORTUGAL EVENT GROUP LEADER: TOM ALSOP

WE HAVE SET THE ARRIVAL DATE FOR THIS EVENT TO BE SEPTEMBER 24, 2025 AND DEPARTURE ON OCTOBER 5, 2025. THIS MEANS YOU'LL NEED TO LEAVE THE USA ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2025 ON AN OVERNIGHT FLIGHT, AND ARRIVE ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2025.
WE ARE WORKING WITH A DESTINATION MANAGEMENT COMPANY (DMC) THAT IS SELECTING THE HOTEL, GOLF COURSES AND DINNER VENUES. THEY HAVE PROVIDED THE ITINERARY SHOWN AT THE LINK BELOW.
UPDATED TENTATIVE ITINERARY:
SEE THE TENTATIVE ITINERARY UPDATED AS OF 6/12/25 = = = > CLICK HERE
(Even though the itinerary says "itinerary," it's actually tentative until we get the final website built.)
YOUR PRICE:
HOPEFULLY, BY NOW, YOU HAVE REVIEWED THE ITINERARY AND UNDERSTAND THAT YOUR NATIONAL OFFICE OF ASGA HAS WORKED TO SECURE THE BEST PRICING WITH THE BEST VENUES IN THIS PEAK SEASON FOR GOLF.
To see RATES for rooming alone or having a roommate, go to the REGISTER FOR EVENT link at the bottom of this page and login. You do not have to pay just to see the prices.
EXCHANGE RATE NOTICE:
Portugal accepts EUROs as the only form of payment for our event.
Please note that the cost of the trip is based on the current exchange rate of €100 = $113.46 USD (as of today, 5/20/25 according to xe.com).
If on September 15, 2025, the exchange rate changes and €100 ends up costing more than $113.46, attendees will owe ASGA, Inc. the difference, payable by 9/22/25.
If on September 15, 2025,the exchange rate changes and €100 ends up costing less than $113.46, ASGA, Inc. will refund the difference to the attendees, payable by 9/22/25.
This ensures everyone pays a fair and accurate amount based on the actual currency conversion at the time of the trip.
We are planning to explore three distinct regions of Portugal: Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve/Faro region (as shown at left), over the 12-day period.
-
Securing Accommodations:
-
Tom Alsop has completed a site visit that ran from June 1-June 10, 2025 reviewing the work the DMC has done. They have put us in top-notch 4 and 5 star hotels that look great.
-
With a projected sellout of 136 participants, we estimate the need for 103 rooms, a mix of queen beds and large twins to accommodate attendees rooming alone and/or couples as well as members having roommate. The twin beds in Portugal are larger than a twin bed families have for kids, estimated width is 44" wide.
-
Golf Course Logistics:
-
During the site visit, Tom inspected four (4) golf courses to ensure they can accommodate our group, including confirming the availability of sufficient motorized "buggies" (golf carts) to allow for shotgun starts. We're awaiting the final number of golf carts which willl be available to us.
-
Golf Club Rental - Tom met with Jose Cruz, the owner of Nice Shot Club Hire, regarding club rentals. Mr. Cruz sees that we have two-thirds of our group as women. He's checking into the availability of women's clubs, left and right handed and graphite and steel. We will shortly be sending an email to all attendees to determine their preference in the type of golf club rental they need.
-
Transportation Coordination:
-
Our DMC has relationships with well-regulated motor coach companies who will move our group from point to point. Tom did not meet with the transportation companies but our DMC assures us you will have top notch companies operating within the law in Portugal. These coaches will take care of our daily transportation needs, including hotel to golf courses and all of our venues indicated on the itinerary (except "on your own" restaurants where you will let off in an area and disperse to a variety of restaurants."
-
The DMC along with transportation providers will also assist in planning optional excursion activities on non-golf days.

Site Visit Details:
-
Website Launch and Deposits:
-
Following the site visit, a dedicated website will be developed to provide complete trip details, including itinerary, costs, and booking information.
-
To determine the actual number of attendees and the number of rooms we need to book, we will require a deposit as follows:
Deposit Policy: If, for any reason, you decide not to participate in the trip:
-
For a $198 deposit: This will be converted into two years of ASGA membership.
-
For a $396 deposit: $198 will be converted into two years of ASGA membership, and the remaining $198 will be refunded to you upon notification of your cancellation.
Deposits are essential as they demonstrate serious intent to attend. Each $198 deposit accounts for half a room each night, and each $396 deposit accounts for a full room each night. This information allows us to provide hotels with an accurate room count, enabling us to sign contracts and finalize other trip logistics, such as dining and golfing arrangements.
Important Notes:
-
Airfare is not included and will be the responsibility of each participant.
-
Group Transportation will NOT be provided from the airport to the hotel and at the end of the event, from the hotel to the airport. We've tried group transportation before and it doesn't work with our group as 136 people will be coming in on 10-15 flights. The issue we had before was that a) attendees arriving at 7:00am, for example, may have to wait an hour before the 8:00am flight comes in which fills up the motor coach. We've decided that sitting and waiting doesn't work for our group. So attendees will need to take an Uber, Lyft or taxi to the Altis Grand Hotel which is a 15-20 minute drive from the airport.
We look forward to an unforgettable journey in Portugal with ASGA members from across the country!
Good News . . . as of 09/08/2025 we have 88 members have registered and paid in full and we have room for more attendees!

Some Other Things . . .
Some attendees wanted to know the price of coming in 1-3 days early and/or staying 1-3 days late. That info is now on your registration page (see Register for Event link below).
Some wanted to know the price of a caddie. We're getting that info, although the price of a caddie would likely vary from one course to another. (We still don't have that info. We will post an email address for each course so that you may inquire.)
Someone wanted to know the price of the event if they did not play golf. (We have given that information to that person.)
At some point, we will ask everyone for their arrival date, time and flight number as well a their departure date, time and flight number. In addition, we will ask you to submit your passport information.
Note that on our last night, we'll stay at the Melia Hotel Orient which is about 15 minutes away from the LIS airport. We believe group transportation might not work for all of us but knowing arrival and departure times might allow us to provide group transportation for those whom we can group together.
Interested? For now, we need your deposit right away!
