About Cabo and The Trip

7/19/21 Update:  We are sold out of our contractually allocated 56 rooms. If you are interested in attending this event and being put on the waiting list, please contact and let us know.

(edited from Wikipedia) Cabo has been rated as one of Mexico's TOP FIVE tourist destinations; it is known for its beaches, scuba diving locations, seaside resorts, the sea arch Arco de Cabo San Lucas, and marine life. The Los Cabos Corridor has become a popular vacation destination for tourists, with numerous resorts along the coast between Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. Cabo houses a range of wildlife, including rays, sharks, birds, and a range of fish, such as mahi-mahi, and striped marlin. In the winter, pods of whales can be observed in the area. They bear their calves in the warm waters of the Gulf of California after completing their 6000-mile migration from Alaska and Siberia.
Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo are served by Los Cabos International Airport. Clubs in Cabo include the Cabo Wabo Cantina, a nightclub owned by rock star Sammy Hagar, founded originally by him and other members of Van Halen, named after their hit single Cabo Wabo. There is also the Baja Brewing Company, Pink Kitty Nightclub, Mandala, El Squid Roe, Giggling Marlin, Nowhere Bar, Tiki Bar, the Usual Suspects and the Jungle Bar. Restaurants in downtown Cabo include Edith's, Hacienda Cocina y Cantina, Sunset da Mona Lisa and The Office, a lively outdoor restaurant where tables and chairs sit on the sandy beach. Tourists can also ride horses through the desert, charter a boat for fishing, snorkel, and parasail on the beach. The English-language newspaper for Cabo San Lucas, the biweekly "Gringo Gazette", has news on tourist activities in Cabo San Lucas and San Jose.

Depart the USA on Sunday, October 24 and arrive the same day in Cabo, then depart Cabo on Sunday, October 31, 2021 and return the same day to the USA. Cabo is on Mountain Time, two hours later than Eastern Time. It observes daylight savings time.

At the event, you'll have an opportunity to book optional activities and excursions on your own. See link to the left relative to excursion activities.

PLEASE CHECK BACK TO THIS WEBSITE ON A REGULAR BASIS to review any changes. We will not be sending emails out each time there is a minor change. At any time there could be special notices or updates to this event. That info will be posted under the "Emails/Updates" link on the left side of this page.

Before You Travel . . . Before You Sign-Up . . .

There are always risks involved with travel, both in the U. S. and internationally.  This website is about a group traveling to the Republic of Mexico between October 24 and October 31, 2021.  Some attendees may wish to extend their trip, adding days before or after.  In any case, we ask that you visit and specifically the section dealing with Mexico prior to making plans or departing.  You must have a current passport in order to enter Mexico. If you drive, a U.S. drivers license is acceptable. At the .gov site above, you'll see information about pre-trip planning and other very important items.

The American Singles Golf Association (ASGA) is known for its top quality international trips.  For most members, these are a trip of a lifetime and as such, we don't cut corners. You'll be staying at a 5-star hotel, play some of the most beautiful courses ever, enjoy great meals and make friends that hopefully will become lifelong friends.

7/19/21 Update:  We are sold out of our contractually allocated 56 rooms. If you are interested in attending this event and being put on the waiting list, please contact and let us know..

HOTEL ROOMS & ROOMMATES:  You can register at any time, however, when we fill-up our block of rooms, we may not be able to get additional rooms because the public will be reserving rooms as well. So please don't assume you can wait until the last minute to register. Register right away and if you know you'll have a roommate, it helps if both of you register around the same day.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  If you're the last person to register for this event and we don't have a roommate for you, you may have to pay the "room-by-myself" package, so REGISTER EARLY to keep from being the last to register!

WORTH CHECKING INTO:  Rick Steves' Travel Tips

Who's Coming: In April, 2019, we had 72 members attend this event. As members sign-up, their names will be posted on the Who's Coming page (see left green tab) and updated weekly. You have the right to request your name not be posted.

Based on our past history of international travel with this size group, 58% roomed by themselves and 42% of our attendees had a roommate. So when we reserve rooms for this trip, we use that formula so the hotel knows to provide an ample number of rooms with two beds and rooms with king/queen beds. Under our group contract with the hotel we'll utilize, we have what are called "ROH" or "Run of House" rooms which means the hotel can put our attendees in any of their rooms in the hotel.  We do that to get our best rates which hopefully gets our largest attendance.  On this trip, all attendees will have ocean* view rooms. Ocean* front rooms are available at an additional charge. Inquire with ASGA.

Airfare is NOT INCLUDED in any package.  See the "Getting There" tab at left for sample airline rates.

* we say "ocean," however, it is technically the Sea of Cortés but you can't tell the difference!

7/19/21 Update:  We are sold out of our contractually allocated 56 rooms. If you are interested in attending this event and being put on the waiting list, please contact and let us know.

Our three package courses are through Questro Golf.  We will play golf on Monday (Oct. 25), Wednesday (Oct. 27) and Friday (Oct. 29) per below. For a short YouTube video on Questro Golf - click here.

The Courses We'll Play & Tee Boxes

See itinerary tab at left for starting times each day.

We are under contract to have shotgun starts each day, however, if we surpass 52 players at Puerto Los Cabos, we'll have straight tee times as shown above.  Shotgun starts work best with large groups primarily because of the transportation situation. Shotgun start means we all start at one time and we all end, generally, at one time.

OPTIONAL GOLF - For the die-hards who wish to play an additional round on Thursday, Oct. 28, we have the Desert Course at available to us with tee times starting at 10:18am. We have reserved tee times for 12 players.  This is a line item on the registration form. Price does not include round trip transportation.  As in 2019, take a taxi with your fellow golfers.

Golf Play Format.   We'll play USGA Rules of Golf (play your own ball, not someone else's!) so please "brush-up" on the USGA Rules of Golf

Prizes.   We will have first and second place team prizes as well as proximity (closest to pin) prizes. Please make sure your handicap is correct before registering. If you don't know your handicap, please give us your average 18-hole golf score.  We will have proximity (closest-to-pin) competitions on many par 3s for both men and women.  The prizes will be given out at the final dinner. The prizes will be our much sought after $25.00 prize certificates good towards upcoming events, towards your dues or an ASGA logo'd golf shirt. These prizes are non-transferable.

Caddies and Golf Carts.  Caddies are very rare in Mexico but if you're interested, continue reading.  Golf carts are included each day.

The cost for the caddies is $75 for a twosome or $100 for a foursome (gratuities not included). Reservation is required at least 48 hours prior and will be confirmed based on availability. Contact the hotel concierge to make the call for you.

A couple of other things to consider regarding caddies: At a European event years ago, ASGA coordinated getting caddies for players who wanted them. On the day of play, only 75% of the caddies showed-up, leaving some members not the happiest.  So we no longer get involved in doing this for you. At some point, we will post contact information on how to reserve a caddie and you can make arrangements for yourself, in writing, via email.

Regarding fore-caddies, the issue here is that you would need to have everyone in your foursome agree to pay their share of the fore-caddie cost.  In past years, one person paid it but did not get reimbursed by others.  The best scenario is to arrange a fore-caddie once you've met your playing partners at the event (the day before) and then call ahead to the course to arrange for the fore-caddie. This way, everyone can pay their 25% share of the fore-caddie cost.

Golf Club Movement.  We have arranged for the motorcoach company (Satellite) to carry your clubs to the courses in the storage area under the coach. You will also be on the coach. You will need to stay with your clubs to make sure they are loaded and unloaded at each time they are loaded and unloaded. We suggest you keep the lid attached to your bag so that balls and clubs don't come flying out of your bag during transportation.

Each day, bring your golf clubs to the front of the hotel lobby and be there while your clubs are being loaded into the motor coach. After your round, bring your clubs to the motor coach where personnel will load your clubs. Please do not leave your clubs on your cart at the end of each round.  In the end, every member is responsible for the safe-keeping of their own equipment.  Make sure you do not leave valuables, memorabilia, etc. in your golf bag and make sure you understand where your clubs will be returned to if you are renting clubs.

Golf Club Rentals

With the cost of taking your clubs to Mexico on the plane, past trips have indicated that 25-30% of our group prefer to rent clubs while on major trips.  Questro Golf, the management company for our three primary courses, rents clubs.  Here is a memo they sent to us on 6/16/21:
"Rental Clubs: We hope to have the new sets in Cabo Real and Puerto before October. If that happens, the cost will be probably be $65/round (price subject to change). At Campestre, the cost will be less because they won't be new sets but we don't know what the price will be yet. Right now we are only charging $35 at all three courses since they have two years of usage."

If interested, please make arrangements directly with them by filling-out this Credit Card Authorization Form and submitting to Questro. Be sure to specify on that form what types of clubs you want. You will use the clubs one day then pick-up another set at their other courses later in the week. Note we play golf on October 25, 27 and 29.
If you wish to play the optional round at Cabo del Sol, rentals could be a bit higher, possibly $65 per round. Inquire by going to their CONTACT US page.

Note:  ASGA assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen or damaged golf clubs, bags or content in golf bags, rentals or your own.25

Getting to Cabo

7/19/21 Update:  We are sold out of our contractual allocated 56 rooms. If you are interested in attending this event and being put on the waiting list, please contact and let us know.

It's hard to imagine getting to Cabo by any other method than an airplane!  Here are some suggested airlines that fly to Los Cabo International (airport code SJD):

American Airlines

Delta Airlines

Southwest Airlines

United Airlines

Have you checked the expiration date of your passport?  You'll need a passport but the "good for six months" is not a requirement in Mexico, just that your passport is good the day you travel to Mexico.

Take this S.T.E.P.

Many people like to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program with the U. S. State Department just to let them know that you are in another country.  To do so, go here.

Packing Light

Check out this website on how to save on packing luggage.

What are the Germiest Spots in the Airport?

This article from the AARP website will make you carry a 3-oz. bottle of germ killer with you at all times when traveling.

ASGA Transportation & Airport Shuttle to Hotel

Please understand that transportation between all courses and our half-day in Cabo is "group transportation," or a motorcoach.

At the Airport.  Cabo has a small airport. When you clear customs and get your luggage, you'll want to follow the signs to shuttles.

A variety of shuttle companies:  Check out these shuttle services that will give you an instant quote from the airport to the Paradisus hotel, which is about 20-25 minutes from the airport:   Note that if you have golf clubs, you may pay a bit extra for the additional baggage. Inquire what that cost would be with the shuttle service you select. You can purchase a one-way shuttle or round-trip. Have your airline information in front of you as you'll need it to book the shuttle.

Car Rental - At the Cabo airport, there are a number of car rental agencies. In 2019, a six-day car rental in Cabo by Tom Alsop cost $135 (U.S.) for an intermediate-size car, plus gas. Expect prices to be a bit higher. There is no cost for valet or self-parking at the Paradisus.

7/19/21 Update:  We are sold out of our contractually allocated 56 rooms. If you are interested in attending this event and being put on the waiting list, please contact and let us know.

The cost on this trip is not much higher than the cost for our 2019 trip to Cabo where 72 members attended which was the same, all-inclusive package. Having a large group allows us to receive strong discounts compared to what the public pays.

A DEPOSIT OR FULL PAYMENT IS REQUIRED. By doing so, we'll know how many rooms to reserve. Whether you room alone or with someone, a deposit of ten percent (10%) of the package cost will guarantee you a room.  If you don't make final payment now, you'll make it later and be able to deduct the deposit amount. We will confirm your numbers when your registration has been received.

If for ANY reason you need to back-out of this event, you will receive your full deposit or payment in full amount less $89 which will add 12 months' additional ASGA membership less a $25 processing fee.

Airfare is not included to or from Cabo, nor any domestic portion of your travel.

We suggest you purchase trip insurance.  See link at left.  If you do purchase trip insurance, you must do it within five (5) days of when you register and pay for the event.

Cost Variables

  • You can room with the same person the entire trip or you can room by yourself (more expensive).
  • On October 28, you can hop on the bus and head to The Office on the Beach in Cabo San Lucas to include dinner on the beach with live entertainment from a great Mariachi band.
  • You can save 3% by paying by check vs. credit card
  • Trip insurance is additional but may save you $$$ if you believe there may be some upcoming issues.

Mail checks to:  ASGA, 1122 Industrial Dr., Suite 107, Matthews, NC 28105.

3. Itinerary Changes.  ASGA reserves the right to make changes in the itinerary as needed as long as the attendee receives the other item(s) with the same value.  In other words, if a golf course needs to be changed because we don't have the requisite number of players or if we have too many players, then a comparable course (dollar-wise) will be substituted.  If the alteration is major, such as deleting the number of days in the trip, you will have the option of accepting the alternative arrangements or receiving a full refund.  No refunds on golf if there is rain UNLESS the course is closed and the course provides a refund to us.

6. Force Majeure.  ASGA accepts no responsibility for and shall not be liable in respect of loss or damage or changes caused by force majeure events such as strikes, riots, political unrest, war hostilities, or threat of war, terrorist activity, industrial disputes, fire, flood, weather problems or similar events beyond its control.
7. Website Description.  Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of descriptions and information. However, we are not always able to control all components of the arrangements and it is possible that an advertised facility may be withdrawn or changed, due to weather conditions, lack of demand or for maintenance, renovations etc. We will advise you if we become aware of a major change.
8. If You Have a non-ASGA-related Complaint.  Should you have any complaint not related to ASGA, you are urged to discuss it at the time with the airline, hotel, course or car rental company. If your complaint is not resolved or if you believe ASGA can assist you, please notify an ASGA representative as soon as possible and we do our best to assist you with your concern if it is within our ability.
9. Group Travel.  This event is considered group travel, meaning you enjoy the event as part of the overall group.  Our group may travel together, typically in a motorcoach at certain events. If you miss your group transportation on a given day, the group shall continue on its schedule without regard for your situation and it is up to you to find your way to meet up with the group ahead of you. Motorcoaches depart our various locations at stated times so make sure you're on the coach. We will wait no longer than ten (10) minutes for you on any motor coach departure. As the saying goes, "if you're on time, you're late!"
Please note that the group leader has reserved the front right two (2) seats on all motorcoaches we utilize each day.
ASGA is not responsible if you miss any group transportation, group events, golf, dinners, etc. and there shall be no price adjustment unless the fault lies with ASGA.
10. Food.  ASGA understands that some individuals have special dietary needs. Since all meals, except one (or two if you go to The Office on the Beach outdoor restaurant), will be in different restaurants and our group will scatter amongst all of the available restaurants.
Note that some restaurants FILL UP FAST, especially the really nice ones, so you may need to make reservations 1-3 days in advance. Remember, it's not just our group and the hotel.
11. Golf Cancellation Due to Weather.  If the golf course closes due to weather, we believe the course will refund our golf costs. If the course is open and there is rain, there is no refund on golf fees. Please be prepared to have rain gear, umbrella, etc. in your bag.
