Reunion in Pinehurst 2020

Sunday, November 8 - Wednesday, November 11, 2020

(with optional rounds of golf on day-of-arrival, Sunday and day-of-departure, Wednesday.

They call Pinehurst the "Home of Golf."  Steeped in its own history, Pinehurst itself has become "home" to the hearts and minds of members of the American Singles Golf Association.  Over a half dozen times in the last ten years, we have visited Pinehurst for our golf and social adventure.  Yes, we're fully aware of what's going on in the world today and as you'll see from the above "Note from Pinehurst Resort," they are taking an immense level of attention to make sure your visit is as safe as possible.

From the Pinehurst website . . . "In the heart of the North Carolina Sandhills, you’ll find Pinehurst, the home of golf in America. Walk beneath the whispering pines and you’ll understand the wonder Donald Ross experienced as he first surveyed the property in 1901…and the exhilaration Payne Stewart felt in his stunning 1999 U.S. Open victory on No. 2."

Pinehurst is . . .  a four-time U.S. Open Site (1999, 2005 and 2014 for the Men and 2014 Women's U. S. Open)  . . . a three-time winner of Travel + Leisure Golf Magazine’s Best Golf Resort in America award . . . and the home of the famed No. 2 golf course, site of the 1951 Ryder Cup.

IMPORTANT:  We have reserved a block of 50 rooms our peak nights (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday).  You can register at any time, however, when we fill-up those rooms, we may not be able to get additional rooms because the public will be reserving rooms as well. So please don't assume you can wait until the last minute to register.  In 2015, we sold out of everything a month in advance. Register right away and if you know you'll have a roommate, please both of you register the same day if possible.

REGARDING ROOMMATES: Traditionally, many attendees at our events have roomed together. We're aware of the health concerns you have about being in one room with someone you don't know, so Pinehurst has agreed this year only to allow one person to a room without charging a single supplement. See rate details further on this website.

Important Notice: Pinehurst has notified us that they now have a policy of two (2) golfers to a golf cart. Wearing a mask while being in close contact with others is recommended and that includes riding in a cart. If, however, you wish to ride in a cart on your own, you will need to pay $40.00 per day. We will inform you in the near future on how to pay this fee directly to Pinehurst.

Optional Things to Enjoy:

  • You can play Pinehurst No. 3 as an optional round on the day-of-arrival.  $109 includes cart, green fee and range balls.
  • If you're staying the optional Wednesday night, we'll gather in the Carolina Hotel lobby at 6:00pm and head-out for an optional dinner at a nearby location to be announced at the event. A sign-up sheet will be available at registration.
  • You can also play Pinehurst No. 8 as an optional round on the day-of-departure.  $159 includes cart, green fee and range balls. Pinehurst No. 8 is listed as one of Pinehurst's premiere courses.

Package Pricing - See Below.  Our rate is so low, you could easily pay for five more years of ASGA membership and not pay the price the public would pay for this same event.  Pinehurst has treated us very well in the past.  This is Southern Hospitality at its best.  The staff welcomes us again to their beautiful and historic resort.  (And although gratuities are included, please be sure to take care of your room and wait staff if you feel "moved" to do so!)

We've had as many as 420 members attend this event in the past.  There's no limit on the amount of members we can have at this point, however, we are bound by our contract and if additional rooms are needed, we will ask for them and it will be subject to availability.

Open to Former Members, Married or Not

This is a "reunion" event whereby ASGA allows former members to attend the event, whether married or not.  Attendees of this category must pay a 5% premium. Former members who are still single can renew their membership for $89 annually. Go here to do that.

For ASGA members, keep in mind that you must be an ASGA member at the time of the event in order to attend.

Not sure when your dues expire, go here.

The Packages

See below* for what's included in all packages.  First, here are your accommodations included with the packages:

  • Staying at Holly Inn or Manor Inn: $819 per person whether there's one or two persons to the room
  • Staying at the Carolina Hotel:  $989 per person whether there's one or two persons to the room

Non-Hotel Package for Pinehurst Chapter Members Only - Call the office at 980-833-6450 (9-1:30, Eastern time) for your pricing. Non-hotel does not include hotel nor breakfasts at the Resort.  Transferring "in" to the Pinehurst chapter not allowed.

Non-Golf Package: We will not offer non-golf packages for this event.

Under our group contract with Pinehurst Resort, we have what are called "Resort Wide" rooms which means the Resort can put our attendees in any of their accommodations on property. We do that to get our best rates which gets the largest attendance.  The only room upgrade offered is the upgrade to stay at the Carolina Hotel, the large white building shown at the top of this page.  That option to stay there will be provided on the registration form.

Airfare is NOT INCLUDED in any package.  If you're flying in, you'll likely fly into Greensboro or Raleigh, NC.  You'll probably want to either rent a car at the airport or take a shuttle.  If you know someone who's coming in on the same flight, think about sharing the cost of the rental with them.  We suggest you post your request to share a ride under the FORUM green-bar link on this website.

Because Pinehurst is a resort, an 18% service charge is added to your bill at any dining outlets by Pinehurst.  This fee has already been included in dining events under your package your purchase through ASGA.  Gratuities for any other service staff, i.e. transportation, housekeeping, etc. are at your own discretion.

More on getting from the airport(s) to the Resort under the "Getting There" link on the left.

* In all packages**, the following items are included:

  • Three (3) nights' stay at Pinehurst Resort
  • Two (2) rounds of golf at Pinehurst Resort (Courses 1 & 6)
  • Three (3) dinners:  Arrival dinner on Sunday at 7pm, Monday night "picnic-style" dinner and a Tuesday night awards dinner
  • Two (2) drink tickets at the pre-dinner gathering on Sunday night
  • Three (3) full service (hot) breakfasts including the omelet station.  This is Pinehurst's breakfast buffet . . . STAFF SERVED!
  • Dancing with the DJ our last night only if 100 or more register for this event by October 8, 2020
  • All resort service fees and taxes
  • 20% off one (1) 50-minute or longer spa treatment or one-day rental for one (1) of a set of Titleist golf clubs
  • Free self-parking, use of fitness center, on-site transportation, high-speed internet in your room, use of bicycles, practice putting greens and driving range, staff gratuities for meals in your package.
  • Welcome gift, Program and Pairings Guide, Nametags, ASGA $25 Prize Certificates for winners of competitions

** all packages except the non-hotel (Pinehurst Chapter members only) package

Golf

Pinehurst Resort's Actions Toward COVID-19:  See https://www.pinehurst.com/covid-19-response

Courses.  Pinehurst offers more golf courses in one resort than any other resort in the nation.  The current number of courses is nine (9).  See below for the package courses we will play.

Golf Play Format.  We will play our own ball each day using the USGA Rules of Golf.  Men will play from the white tees and women will play from the forward tees.

Weather. Pinehurst's policy is (paraphrasing) "if the course is open, there are no refunds for bad weather, except if there is lightening, the course will either close or the round will be postponed until the lightening goes away."

Here's something from a local golf course's website:

Golf is a game played against the course, the field, and the elements. Originating along the coast of Scotland, early golfers played in radiant sun that darkened to blowing rain and howling winds as quick as a competitor would stymie another in a close match. Weather, in all its unpredictable forms, is knit into the fabric of the game – plan ahead for any inclement weather conditions as play will continue under most conditions, i.e. cold, fog, rain, heat.

Courses.  Under our packages for this event, you'll play both Pinehurst No. 1 and Pinehurst No. 6. Here is the golf schedule (times and number of players per course subject to change by Pinehurst Golf Staff):

  • Monday, November 9 - Pinehurst No. 6 - Straight Tee Times beginning at 10:06am
  • Tuesday, November 10 - Pinehurst No. 1 - Straight Tee Times beginning at 9:04am

Pinehurst shuttle service is provided free of charge to all courses as required.  You may also drive to courses in your own vehicle.

Optional Rounds of Golf.  Playing optional rounds on Sunday could make you late for the Sunday dinner, which offers the cocktail half-hour at 7pm and with dinner beginning at 7:30pm.

You'll have an opportunity to play these additional/optional rounds of golf (which are outside the basic packages we offer) and include green fees, cart and range balls:

  • Sunday, November 8 - Optional Day-of-Arrival Golf (up to 16 players, tee times beginning at 12:16pm-12:40pm - Pinehurst No. 3  Cost:  $109
  • Wednesday, November 11 -  Optional Day-of-Departure Golf (9:00 tee times) - Pinehurst No. 8.  Cost: $159.

Prizes.  We'll have first and second place team prizes based on the two (2) best net balls out of the foursome and closest-to-pin competitions.  Winners will be announced at Tuesday's awards' dinner. ASGA $25 Prize Certificates will be awarded to the winners.

Golf Club Storage.  Pinehurst has agreed to store your golf clubs between rounds and have them sitting on your cart for your next day of play.  On your final day, remember to take your clubs back to your accommodation.

Caddies.  Enjoy your overall experience by hiring a Pinehurst caddie.  You must reserve your caddie in advance and the number of caddies available varies from season to season. ASGA assumes no responsibility for no-shows of caddies. Click here for more information.

Click here to go to Pinehurst's general golf website.

ASGA or the Pinehurst golf staff reserves the right to modify the tee time schedule based on the number of players as we get closer to the event.

Food Allergies and/or Special Dietary Needs:  If you have a special dietary need, e.g. gluten free, meat free, fat free, pork-free or a nothing burger, etc., you must notify us ahead of time, prior to the event and at the time you register preferably.  Notate that on your registration form somewhere or email the event leader, Tom Alsop at least 72-hours prior to event so that we may notify the Food and Beverage Director at Pinehurst. Please DO NOT ask right prior to the food function as there will be no time to take care of your needs. Once we are at a particular venue, it is UP TO YOU to notify the Pinehurst staff who you are and that you are the one with the special dietary need and you've pre-notified Tom Alsop 3-days in advance.  We will not try to find you (thank you!).

Please be advised that certain functions, such as breakfast or other times when buffets are present, pork (bacon) may be on display as well as pork barbeque at some dinner functions.

Travel Protection

How to Best Protect Yourself for Future Covid-19 Incidents
and Concerns with GolfSafe Travel Protection

Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) policies and coverage will allow someone to cancel for any reason, even for a "bad hair day"! This might be the only cancellation option available if you are afraid of catching the coronavirus on your trip.

Insurance does not protect you from "the fear of an "incident", it protects you if you incurred the incident. Example, car insurance will not cover you for the fear in having an accident, but instead will cover you if you had an accident.

The best possible solution is to purchase a CFAR plan that will allow you to cancel two days or more before departure and receive up to 75% cashback of the penalties incurred at the time of cancellation. You must abide by the terms to purchase CFAR. They are:
  • Purchase the GolfSafe Secure Plan within 21 days of the initial (first) trip deposit
  • Insure 100% of trip costs
  • You must cancel 2 days or more before trip departure
A CFAR policy also includes coverage for "other reasons" should you have to cancel for sickness, injury or one of the many other covered reasons in the policies. If you had to cancel for the "other reasons" as noted in the policies, you would receive reimbursement for up to 100% of the penalty amount for the losses that were actually insured.

For questions and details, please call our team at (844) 673-7050, or visit the FAQ GolfSafe site -

Travel Protection is NOT AUTOMATICALLY INCLUDED in this event, however, you may purchase travel protection on your own. This can cover you for a number of issues, including but not limited to your airfare, your registration fee and other expenses.

Covid Note:

Pinehurst and ASGA Additional Cancellation Policy Regarding the Covid-19 Pandemic and Our Pinehurst Event, November, 2020, Plus Additional Cost if Riding in a Cart Alone

Hopefully, by now, we are all aware of the precautions that businesses around the country are taking to prevent the spread of the virus. Pinehurst Resort has given us a link which is posted on our event website relative to the precautions they are taking to protect us during our visit in November. That link is www.SinglesGolf.com/3

ASGA, in turn, would like to be very specific about its cancellation policy relative to this event. ASGA is under contract with Pinehurst Resort to fill a minimum of 50 rooms for each of our three peak nights, November 8, 9 and 10.

In our contract with Pinehurst, it states "In the event that a group member looks to cancel their reservation within 3 weeks of check-in date, Resort will work with guests on an individual basis to determine whether the individual will be charged in full for cancelling or if any adjustments can be made. Resort does not guarantee that guests will be able to cancel without penalty once they are within 3 weeks of arrival."

Covid concerns will not be gone in November. To cancel this event simply because of your concern for the virus may not be good enough reason to ask for a refund.

Pinehurst has gone to a policy of two persons to a golf cart. Depending on which course you play, there may not be enough carts to provide a cart to each person individually. Pinehurst could charge you up to $40 per round if you wish to have a cart to yourself.

Please bring a face mask with you to this event!
