Asheville, NC

Asheville, the mountain chapter, “climbed to new heights,” in several areas in 2006. Membership increased to 50+. Monthly golf outings suffered no rain-outs, and participation was high. Each outing was succeeded by either a potluck dinner at a member’s home or a restaurant gathering, allowing participants to relax and re-hash the day’s highs and lows.

Monday “Nine and Dine” proved popular, as did Wednesday dancing at Decades Lounge. The annual Super Bowl and Masters parties were highlights. The Christmas party, always a hit, was no exception in 2006; thirty-two members enjoyed grilled beef tenderloin, potluck favorites, and a Chinese gift exchange.

The new year includes a new monthly meeting spot; the chapter will host its monthly socials at Sagebrush Steak House at 2250 Hendersonville Road. Expect good food, good conversation, a 50-50 drawing, and a brief meeting. Members and prospective members are encouraged to attend. The time remains the same – second Thursday of each month at 5:30.

Monthly golf outings for the first three months of 2007 are set, and others are in the works. Check the local website for details and updates – www.asheville.singlesgolf.com.

A fresh slate of officers for 2007 looks forward to keeping the best of 2006 while adding its own spin to make 2007 the best ever.

Charlotte, NC

The purpose of the Charlotte Singles Golf Association is to promote and facilitate the game of golf and camaraderie among single golfers. In addition, we strive to provide activities outside of golf to facilitate deeper friendships and provide other entertainment.

Toward that end, the club offered 17 regular weekend golf outings at 15 different courses (one of them our charity event; another, an outing with Columbia), PLUS five more rounds in championship play. In addition, we offered four 9-hole Wednesday evening events at Raintree and two Friday evening 9-hole events at Revolution. Add to that our participation in the Tennessee/Carolinas Challenge in Knoxville, the North Carolina/South Carolina Challenge in Pinehurst, and the Tanglewood event sponsored by Hickory and there was a full season of golf.

One of our greatest accomplishments of the year was the introduction of the "events" mailbox--our one-stop shopping for signing up for events. It has created a central location for signing up for golf and social events and facilitated our registration process.

On the social side, we had two huge parties this year--the Fourth of July party following golf and the boating party at Lake Norman. These two events were very well attended and received rave reviews. We also offered the "Soup"er Bowl Party, a Masters Party, Poker Nights, a post-golf Halloween Party, a couple of dinners, and our ever-popular Christmas Party.

Membership has remained rather steady with a low of 124 members and a high of 136 members. Membership meetings provided some golf rules and instruction from Pat Stillisano and Fred Bond as well as Tush-Push and Shag lessons from Sam Moody. A Jarrell Affair provided a nice "home" for our monthly meetings with the 50/50 raffles helping to defray the cost of appetizers, as well as line the pockets of a few winning members. Attendance at our membership meetings (second Monday of each month) ranged from a high of 48 people to a low of 20 people. Unfortunately, the lowest attended meetings were the October and November where we vote on new Board members. Unfortunately, those two meetings competed with a holiday weekend (Columbus Day) and a Panthers game.

Love on the Links, our charity event which has benefited Hospice at Charlotte, garnered 54 players and netted a record $6,402.76 for Hospice, bringing our total contribution to over $28,000. Nancy Cole of Hospice accepted the proceeds at our August membership meeting.

Our ongoing goal is to attract new, particularly younger members and to increase participation in events.

Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Chapter of the American Singles Golf Association (ASGA) is a golf organization dedicated to getting single people together both on and off the course! Jacksonville members range in age from 30-70 years with the majority in their 40's and 50's. Members have handicaps ranging from 10-40. Currently we have about 35 members in the group.

We play golf on the 2nd Saturday, and the 4th Sunday of each month with everyone paying for their own golf at the course, we frequently play for $30 per person. The golf course is located in the Jacksonville area, and golf is generally followed by dinner.

In addition, we meet once a month at a convenient location on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 6:00 to 7:30 for cocktails, and a short meeting followed by dinner. Everyone is notified via email of all upcoming events. Our national organization sponsors multiple events throughout the year where we play golf out of town at reasonable rates with 100 to 150 other singles from around the country. Come out and play a round with us.

For information about current and upcoming events, please check out our Events page on our web site at www.jacksonvillesinglesgolf.com . ASGA initial dues are $70.00 for one year, and renewals are $70.00 per year. Feel free to play around with us and see if you fit in

If you're single and like to golf, we are definitely the group for you. Please contact us at our web site www.jacksonvillesinglesgolf.com or if you'd like more information, call our hotline number at 904-576-3376. You are welcome to join us at any of our upcoming events. The only requirement that we have is that you be single, and like to have fun.

Hickory

The Hickory Chapter of ASGA meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month at the Oyster Bar/Ramada Inn (I-40 at Exit 128) at 6:30 pm. With few exceptions, golf is scheduled on the Saturday (usually 2nd Saturday) after the meeting; and then again - eight days later - on Sunday (usually the 3rd Sunday). The Nine & Dines are held from April through September on Tuesday evenings; and the Board of Directors meets on the 3rd or 4th Wednesday of each month. These dates can be found on the 2007 Calendar of Events, which is posted on our website, www.hickory.singlesgolf.com, and is designed to “blend” with the Asheville, UpState SC, and other local chapter calendars, as well as with regional/ national events and holidays.

Under the leadership of second-year President, Bill Lautzenheiser, the Hickory Chapter has doubled the number of elected/appointed positions to the Board of Directors in 2007. Having experienced a membership increase of 50% in 2006, the club will continue to make great strides in it recruiting efforts in the current year – by sending marketing packages to golf clubs and retail stores; distributing ASGA brochures/stands; purchasing advertising; and soliciting free media publicity. Golf events are already being featured each month in local newspaper publications – due to aggressive marketing strategies.

Members/guests of the Hickory ASGA enjoy a variety of scheduled and/or impromptu social gatherings each month at bars, restaurants, nightclubs, and/or each others homes for drinks, dinner, sports events, holiday socials, card games, cookouts, pool parties, dancing, etc. The Board of Directors sponsored the first Club Championship in 2006 with great success. Its second annual event will be held in September of this year. Also, the membership participates in numerous unscheduled golf outings among themselves, local couples’ tournaments, and charity tournaments in the area.

Hickory ASGA members receive numerous individual amenities by virtue of their affiliation. They stay aware of local, regional, and national events by means of the newsletter, monthly postcard, local & national websites, emails, and phone calls. Member handicaps are updated and submitted to ASGA National on a monthly basis. At golf outings, they enjoy reduced rates, complimentary snacks/beverages, prizes for individual/team play, a 50/50 cash pot raffle, and dinner arrangements – followed by media publicity. In addition to the acknowledgement of their birthdays, personal occasions, and/or family crises; Hickory members also receive laminated ID badges and have access to a digital camera, display banner, and computer-generated slide show.

The Hickory Chapter of ASGA eagerly anticipates much interaction with other chapters at joint-chapter, multi-chapter, and national events again this year. We also welcome your participation at any of our scheduled events in the Hickory area, including a joint-chapter outing that has already been scheduled at Rock Barn Golf & Spa (home of the PGA Tour of Champions) on Saturday, July 14, 2007, with a 2:00 pm shotgun limited to 80 people. Please join us at this event – or at any time!

Pinehurst

Our Pinehurst chapter looks forward to 2008 as being another great year of continued success in both membership growth and scheduled golf and social activities. Our roster stands at 60 so far this year – up from 36 at the beginning of last year. The secret of our success?--we offer a wide variety of golf and social events that are just plain fun!

Our golf season begins in earnest in March; evenings find us alternating golf clinics and casual nine ‘n dines on a weekly basis, while the weekends are scheduled twice monthly for 18 hole golf outings (for handicapped games according to the rules of golf) with a social afterwards at either someone’s home or a local restaurant. We hold a variety of special member-only golf events throughout the year, including a Skills Challenge, a Ryder Cup format weekend, and Chapter Championship. We try to keep our schedule open to encourage our members to attend multi chapter events, where it’s always fun to meet other singles that enjoy the same things we do. This year will find two separate multi-chapter events our own neighborhood: Wilmington brings their Winter Chill in March, and National headquarters again picked Pinehurst for the Memorial Day event.

Our monthly dinner meeting changes location each month, as we enjoy trying the variety of cuisines offered by local restaurants. We especially enjoy dining ‘al fresco’ when the weather allows: we try to combine these meetings with putting contests.

When the weather isn’t conducive to golf, we provide a variety of themed events, including card nights, ‘dinner and a movie’, and parties appropriate to the occasion (Christmas, Super Bowl, the Masters).

We support our local tournaments by volunteering and provide both volunteer and financial assistance to the local First Tee chapter. Last year, we raised over $1900 for the Empty Stocking Fund, which provides assistance at Christmas to those in need.

If you are traveling through Moore County, give us a shout: check out our schedule on the website, or contact one of the officers directly to find out the latest! See you on the fairways!

Live . . . Laugh . . . . Love . . . . . GOLF!

 Wilmington, NC

The Wilmington Chapter of the ASGA is sometimes called the "Chapter by the Sea".  We are tucked away between  the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic.  As we begin the new year, we are eagerly awaiting a great year of fun, fellowship and fairways.  Our Golf Chair has already filled our schedule for the year with courses like Magnolia Greens, Topsail Greens, Masonboro Country Club, Belvedere, Beau Rivage, Oak Island and The Lakes, just to name a few.  Most months we have two golf outings.

Two events that we look forward to are the "I-40 Challenge" with our neighbors from Raleigh, and, draw the line in the sand with our friends from the South from Myrtle Beach to host the "Beach Battle".  The planning of these events rotates back and forth between Chapters.  Occasionally, we make a trip to Bald Head Island - a back yard treasure that we love!

Several times during the year, especially at Christmas time, our members provide donations to the Eastern North Carolina Food Bank.  This community involvement is greatly appreciated and gives us great satisfaction as well. In addition to our Christmas Party, we  celebrate Valentine's Day by allowing each member to invite their "sweetheart"  (if they have one!) to play in the golf outing closest to Valentine's Day.  This year we have big plans for several "after golf parties".  Stay tuned!  In 2009, our Annual Membership Party was held at Riegelwood Golf Course with golf and a pig picking - free for all who attended.  Unfortunately, we had to turn people away this year it was so well attended.

So, if you find yourself on vacation at one of Wilmington's beaches or one nearby, check out our schedule on our website and come join the friendliest chapter in the US.  We'll make you feel right at home.

President

Orlando, FL

The Orlando Chapter has their membership meeting on the second Wednesday of every month. Happy hour begins at 6:15 PM and the meeting is at 7:00 PM. The meeting is held at Deer Run Golf Course and Country Club with 9 holes of golf before the meeting and dinner following the meeting. We golf every weekend alternating between Saturday and Sunday with lunch or dinner following golf. We golf every Thursday morning with lunch following golf and golf nine holes every Wednesday evening, enjoying dinner afterwards. We have at least one social activity scheduled every month.

In addition to the scheduled golf we have quarterly weekend tournaments hosted by four of the six Florida Chapters. Many of us attend many weekend outings in the Carolinas, as well as other parts of the country offered by other ASGA groups and our National organization.
