This event is a REUNION EVENT - - open to all members, past and present, married or not married. ASGA National holds two reunion events each year (New Year's and Memorial Day Weekend), connecting the past with the present.  Non-ASGA members pay an additional 5% over member cost. Details are presented herein.

Reunion in Pinehurst 2018

Friday, May 25 - Monday, May 28, 2018

(with optional rounds on Friday and Memorial Day Monday)

They call Pinehurst the "Home of Golf."  Steeped in its own history, Pinehurst itself has become "home" to the hearts and minds of members of the American Singles Golf Association.  Over a half dozen times in the last ten years, we have visited Pinehurst for our Memorial Day Weekend golf and social adventure.

From the Pinehurst website . . . "In the heart of the North Carolina Sandhills, you’ll find Pinehurst, the home of golf in America. Walk beneath the whispering pines and you’ll understand the wonder Donald Ross experienced as he first surveyed the property in 1901…and the exhilaration Payne Stewart felt in his stunning 1999 U.S. Open victory on No. 2."

Pinehurst is . . .  a three-time U.S. Open Site (1999, 2005 and 2014 for the Men's and Women's event)  . . . a three-time winner of Travel + Leisure Golf Magazine’s Best Golf Resort in America award . . . and the home of the famed No. 2 golf course, site of the 1951 Ryder Cup.

IMPORTANT:  We have reserved a block of 60 rooms our peak nights (Friday - Sunday).  You can register at any time, however, when we fill-up those rooms, we may not be able to get additional rooms because the public will be reserving rooms for this Memorial Day weekend as well.  So please don't assume you can wait until the last minute to register.  In 2015, we sold out of everything by May 1. Register right away and if you know you'll have a roommate, please both of you register the same day if possible.

Optional Things to Enjoy:

  • Pinehurst Resort has granted us tee times for 32 players on Pinehurst No. 2, the course used by the U. S. Open players (PGA and LPGA) in past years. This is an optional round of golf, somewhat "costly," but, if interested, you can only play this course on the day-of-arrival, Friday, May 25 for $389.  (Price to public is $450.00.)
  • You can also play Pinehurst No. 1 as an optional round on the day-of-arrival for a much lesser cost than No. 2.  $119.
  • If you're staying Monday night, we'll gather in the Carolina Hotel lobby at 6:00pm and head-out for an optional dinner at a local restaurant.

Package Pricing - See Below.  Our rate is so low, you could easily pay for five more years of ASGA membership and not pay the price the public would pay for this same event.  Pinehurst has treated us very well in the past.  This is Southern Hospitality at its best.  The staff welcomes us again to their beautiful and historic resort.  (And although gratuities are included, please be sure to take care of your room and wait staff if you feel "moved" to do so!)

We've had as many as 420 members attend this event in the past.  There's no limit on the amount of members we can have at this point, however, we are bound by our contract and if additional rooms are needed, it will be subject to availability.

Open to Former Members, Married or Not

This is a "reunion" event whereby ASGA allows former members to attend the event, whether married or not.  Attendees of this category must pay a 5% premium. Former members who are still single can renew their membership for $79 annually. Go here to do that.

For ASGA members, keep in mind that you must be an ASGA member at the time of the event in order to attend.

Not sure when your dues expire, go here.

The Packages

See below* for what's included in all packages.  First, here are your accommodations included with the packages:

  • You have a roommate, staying at Holly Inn, Manor Inn or a Pinehurst Condo: $669
  • You have a roommate, staying at the Carolina Hotel: $769
  • Room by Yourself, staying at the Holly Inn, Manor Inn or a Pinehurst Condo: $875
  • Room-by-Yourself, staying at the Carolina Hotel:  $989

Pinehurst Condo Note:  We will likely NOT stay in any condominium on the resort.  All condos are 2 or 3 bedrooms.  If you're staying in a condo, you either share a bedroom or have the bedroom to yourself under the "room-by-yourself" package with the understanding that you have access to the common areas (living room, kitchen, etc.) but you don't have access to other bedrooms.  So, for example, if a condo has two bedrooms, up to four people can stay in that condo. It is ASGA's practice to put all men in one condo and ladies in a condo by themselves, if cost effective.

Villas - In past years, Pinehurst Resort has stated that the villas (next to The Carolina Hotel) are "part of" the Carolina Hotel.  This year, no villas will be used by anyone registering at The Carolina UNLESS you specify you want to stay in a villa.  Villas typically have four bedrooms with a common living room.  The only way you can stay in a villa is that you do so as a group of members who know each other, either from one or more chapters wanting to share a villa together.  It would require four to eight persons, depending if members are sharing a room together or not.  See the "accommodations" section at left which describes the layout of the villas in more detail.

Non-Hotel Package for Pinehurst Chapter Members Only - Call the office at 980-833-6450 (9-2, Eastern time) for your pricing. Non-hotel does not include hotel nor breakfasts at the Resort.  Transferring "in" to the Pinehurst chapter not allowed.

Non-Golf Package: Call the office at 980-833-6450 (9-2, Eastern time) for your pricing.  Non-golf packages will not be sold until April 25, 2018.  We must be "inside 30 days" in order to sell a non-golf package.

Under our group contract with Pinehurst Resort, we have what are called "Resort Wide" rooms which means the Resort can put our attendees in any of their accommodations on property. We do that to get our best rates which gets the largest attendance.  The only room upgrade offered is the upgrade to stay at the Carolina Hotel, the large white building shown at the top of this page.  That option to stay there will be provided on the registration form.

Airfare is NOT INCLUDED in any package.  If you're flying in, you'll likely fly into Greensboro or Raleigh, NC.  You'll probably want to either rent a car at the airport or take a shuttle.  If you know someone who's coming in on the same flight, think about sharing the cost of the rental with them.  We suggest you post your request to share a ride under the FORUM green-bar link on this website.

Because Pinehurst is a resort, an 18% service charge is added to your bill at any dining outlets by Pinehurst.  This fee has already been included in dining events under your package your purchase through ASGA.  Gratuities for any other service staff, i.e. transportation, housekeeping, etc. are at your own discretion.

More on getting from the airport(s) to the Resort under the "Getting There" link on the left.

* In all packages**, the following items are included:

  • Three (3) nights' stay at Pinehurst Resort
  • Two (2) rounds of golf at Pinehurst Resort (Courses 3 & 6) unless you purchase the non-golf package
  • Welcome cocktail party (cash bar) - Resort to furnish chef's choice of two hors d'oeuvres for one (1) hour per our contract.  (This is not a dinner, but a cocktail party!)
  • Two (2) complimentary drinks at the cocktail party (if you register by April 15th and purchase a package)
  • Three (3) full service (hot) breakfasts with omelet station
  • Two (2) dinners (cookout on second night and awards dinner on last night)
  • Dancing with the DJ our first and last nights only if 100 or more register for this event
  • All resort service fees and taxes
  • Complimentary 20% off one (1) 50-minute or longer spa treatment or complimentary rental for one (1) of a set of Titleist golf clubs
  • Complimentary Afternoon Tea in the Carolina Hotel lobby every day from 4-5pm (available to all hotel guests)
  • Free Valet and self-parking, use of fitness center, on-site transportation, high-speed internet in your room, use of bicycles, practice putting greens and driving range, staff gratuities for meals in your package.
  • Welcome gift, Program and Pairings Guide, Nametags, ASGA Prize Certificates for winners of competitions

** all packages except the non-hotel (Pinehurst Chapter members only) package

Non-hotel packages can only be sold to members of the Pinehurst chapter. If you're a member of the Pinehurst chapter, contact the ASGA office to obtain your pricing without hotel and breakfasts.  Our number is 980-833-6450.  Hours are 9-2, M-F.

Courses.  Pinehurst offers more golf courses in one resort than any other resort in the nation.  The current number of courses is nine (9).  No. 2 is their most famous course and is an OPTIONAL course if you wish to play it on the day of arrival, May 25 only.

Golf Play Format.  We will play our own ball each day using the USGA Rules of Golf.  Men will play from the white tees and women will play from the forward tees.

Weather. Pinehurst's policy is (paraphrasing) "if the course is open, there are no refunds for bad weather, except if there is lightening, the course will either close or the round will be postponed until the lightening goes away."

Here's something from the Tobacco Road Golf Course's website:

Golf is a game played against the course, the field, and the elements. Originating along the coast of Scotland, early golfers played in radiant sun that darkened to blowing rain and howling winds as quick as a competitor would stymie another in a close match. Weather, in all its unpredictable forms, is knit into the fabric of the game – plan ahead for any inclement weather conditions as play will continue under most conditions, i.e. cold, fog, rain, heat.

Courses.  Under the primary packages for this event, you'll play both Pinehurst No. 3 and Pinehurst No. 6. Here is the golf schedule (times and number of players per course subject to change by Pinehurst Golf Staff):

  • Saturday, May 26 - Pinehurst No. 3 - Shotgun start - 1:30pm for 100 players and Pinehurst No. 6 - Tee Times beginning at 1:04pm for 20 players
  • Sunday, May 27 - Pinehurst No. 6 - Tee times - 8:09am for 20 players and Pinehurst No. 3 - Shotgun start for 100 players beginning at 8:30am.

Pinehurst shuttle service is provided free of charge to all courses as required.  You may also drive to courses in your own vehicle.

Optional Rounds of Golf.  Playing optional rounds on Friday could make you late for the cocktail party which begins at 7:30pm at the Carolina Hotel Conference area.

You'll have an opportunity to play these additional/optional rounds of golf (which are outside the basic packages we offer):

  • Friday, May 25 - Optional Day-of-Arrival Golf (up to 32 players, tee times beginning at 1:04pm - Pinehurst No. 1  Cost:  $119.00
  • Friday, May 25 - Optional Day-of-Arrival Golf (1:00-1:20pm) - Pinehurst No. 2  (Maximum of 32 players allowed; three groups teeing-off from No. 1 and 10).  Cost:  $389.00  (Normal rate on this course for hotel guests is $429.00.)
  • Monday, May 28 -  Optional Day-of-Departure Golf (9:00 shotgun start) - Tobacco Road (Designed by Mike Strantz and Ranked 50th in the World). Tobacco Road is about halfway between Pinehurst and the Raleigh/Durham airport.  If you have a few minutes, check out this "fly-over" of Tobacco Road, hole by hole.  Cost:  $119.00  If you want range balls, pay for them on the spot at half-price, $2.00 / bag.

Prizes.  Depending on the number of players under each format and for each course, we'll have team prizes based on the two (2) best net balls out of the foursome and closest-to-pin competitions.  Winners will be announced at Sunday's awards' dinner. ASGA $25 Prize Certificates will be awarded to the winners.

Golf Club Storage.  Pinehurst has agreed to store your golf clubs between rounds and have them sitting on your cart for your next day of play.  On your final day, remember to take your clubs back to your accommodation.

Caddies.  Enjoy your overall experience by hiring a Pinehurst caddie.  You must reserve your caddie in advance and the number of caddies available varies from season to season. ASGA assumes no responsibility for no-shows of caddies. Click here for more information.

Click here to go to Pinehurst's general golf website.

ASGA or the Pinehurst golf staff reserves the right to modify the tee time schedule based on the number of players as we get closer to the event.

In all packages, the following will be included:
  • Welcome Reception Friday night (chef's choice of two hors d'oeuvres for one hour) - cash bar (but you'll receive two (2) complimentary drink tickets as well if you register by April 15, however, we may sell out before April 15!)
  • Three (3) full breakfasts - more than you can eat, we promise!
  • Two (2) dinners (Cook-out menu at Donald Ross Grill & Veranda + final night awards dinner in the Pinehurst Grand Ballroom).

Food Allergies and/or Special Dietary Needs:  If you have a special dietary need, e.g. gluten free, meat free, fat free, pork-free or a nothing burger, etc., you must notify us ahead of time, prior to the event and at the time you register preferably.  Notate that on your registration form somewhere or email the event leader, Tom Alsop at least 72-hours prior to event so that we may notify the Food and Beverage Director at Pinehurst. Please DO NOT ask right prior to the food function as there will be no time to take care of your needs. Once we are at a particular venue, it is UP TO YOU to notify the Pinehurst staff who you are and that you are the one with the special dietary need and you've pre-notified Tom Alsop 3-days in advance.  We will not try to find you (thank you!).

Please be advised that certain functions, such as breakfast or other times when buffets are present, pork (bacon) may be on display.

In addition to the meals provided within your package, you may wish to visit the dining pages of Pinehurst Resort's website by going here.
