General Info

This is our ninth trip to Hawaii!   To U. S. Mainlanders, Hawaii has always been that distant place we've all dreamed about. As a result of your membership in the American Singles Golf Association, you can experience the Island of Maui with your friends and friends "to be" at a highly discounted rate.

Our last trip where we stayed at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua was in March, 2013.  We couldn't resist wanting to stay at this hotel again.  They have agreed to give us their best rate . . . and therefore, pricing for this event in 2017 is the same price as the event in 2013!

Pay just a non-refundable deposit of $500.00 now and the balance in mid-January, and you'll be set to go!

Event dates are February 18-25, 2017.

Take some time to review the links to the various aspects of this trip as shown below left.

We will post at this location IN GREEN anytime there are changes or notifications that we want you to become aware of.

Important Note if You Want to Purchase Travel Protection

Travel protection IS NOT INCLUDED in the price of your package, however, if you purchase travel protection, you MUST activate it by completing a short form that the insurance carrier needs for you to complete.  THIS MUST BE DONE WITHIN TEN (10) days from the time you 1) sign-up and 2) make the FIRST payment for this event.  Failure to do so will cause you to automatically not be eligible for coverage or lose your coverage.  If you wish to have your plane ticket, car rental (if any) etc. covered, you will be given an opportunity to add coverage for those items while completing the form.  Go to the TRAVEL PROTECTION tab at the left to complete this process.

The Packages

We're offering four packages.  All packages include the meals as outlined under the "Food" tab (at left), as follows:

  • Room-with-Someone - Non-golf Package - $2,209
  • Room-with-Someone Including 3 Rounds of Golf - $2,859
  • Room-by-Yourself - Non-Golf Package - $3,545
  • Room-by-Yourself Including 3 Rounds of Golf - $4,195

Under our group contract with the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, we have what are called "ROH" or "Run of House" rooms. We do that to get our best rates.  The best rate gets the largest attendance. You'll have an opportunity to request and pay for an upgraded room with a partial or full ocean view.  That option will be on the registration form.

Airfare is NOT INCLUDED in any package.  Local transportation to restaurants and courses is not included, however, we'll have a "Need a Ride / Give a Ride" form at registration.  On the registration form, it will ask you if you will be renting a car and if you would allow others to ride with you.  If you utilize another person's car, we ask that you contribute a proportionate share to offset that car rental for the week.

In all packages, the following is included:

  • Seven (7) nights' stay at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Maui
  • Three (3) rounds of golf.  Two (2) rounds at the Kapalua Courses (Bay Course on Monday and Plantation Course on Friday) along with one (1) round at the Royal Course at Ka'anapali, a short distance from the hotel. Golf is included unless you purchase the non-golf package
  • Welcome Mai Tai's at Registration and welcome gift (something edible!)
  • Welcome cocktail party at the Ritz-Carlton (cash bar)
  • Five (5) $48 food vouchers to be used at any Ritz-Carlton bar or restaurant, including breakfasts.  (Breakfasts are generally $40++ or $48 all-inclusive of tax and gratuity, or you can use at the hotel for lunch, optional dinners, etc.)
  • Three (3) dinners
  • Program and Pairings Guide, Nametags, Golf Prize Certificates for those who have won proximity competitions.  01/19/17 - Due to our increased participation, we will have 1st and 2nd place team awards for each round in addition to the par 3 competitions.

PLEASE PRINT-OUT THE HARD COPY OF THE REGISTRATION FORM PRIOR TO COMPLETING AN ONLINE REGISTRATION.  THE HARD COPY HAS ADDITIONAL DETAILS OF THIS EVENT ALONG WITH PAYMENT OPTIONS.

Hi ASGA Members Traveling to Hawaii - -

Over the next 10 days, I'll be sending you updates on things.  If you're out and about with no access to email, you can always check the Hawaii website as I'll post these emails under the email tab on the left side of the page:  www.SinglesGolf.com/Hawaii

1.  One of our members, Marcella Da Massa, who was one of the 99 who went to Spain with us this past September, passed away Saturday evening.  Many of you knew Marcella and she was looking forward to making this Hawaii trip as well. She was a member of the Phoenix chapter.  Marcella's Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/marcella.damassa   We will miss the ever-happy and joyful Marcella.  She was always a delight to be around.  (And thank you Bobbi R. for keeping us up to date on Marcella.)

2.  In the package you purchased for the Hawaii trip (package included your hotel rooms, golf, 5 breakfasts and 3 dinners), you have an option.  The breakfasts are valued at $39 plus gratuity and taxes, or rounded to $48 each, or $240 for the week.  We've negotiated on your behalf whereby you can use that $240 credit for not only breakfast, but also for other food and beverage outlets "just like cash."  So you can use your credit at The Banyan Tree, Alaloa Lounge, Kai Sushi, The Pool Café, The Burger Shack and in-room dining at anytime throughout the week.  The 3-dinners are off-property so you cannot use that credit at any location other than the above locations.

3.  On those few nights we go out for dinner and the one day we head 8-miles away to play golf at Ka'anapali, I need to know who is renting a car and whether you will have room to take anyone else to these locations.  So if you could reply with a "John Doe - Can take 3 people" kind of response, that would help.  No need to reply if you're hitch-hiking or don't have a car.  If we don't have enough cars, I plan on renting a 15-passenger church van.  These vans come with sheet music for us all to enjoy.

4.  On the top portion of the website (www.SinglesGolf.com/Hawaii), you will see where we have posted a FORUM link.  We used this in Spain and it worked well.  Essentially, when you click on the link, you can email fellow attendees.  You can create new topics.  I have already created some topics such as sharing a ride, what optional excursions would you like to go on, etc.  It's for YOU GUYS TO TALK TO EACH OTHER.

Note that I receive a text any and every time something is posted so please don't say anything about me.  I'm a very sensitive person as everyone knows. (insert LOL here).

5.  This week, I will be preparing the Program and Pairings Guide, our little booklet that has all the information you need for the week.  Outside of the things I write, members find the pairings page to be of greatest interest.  So . . . if you would like to play with someone, now's the time to request it.  If you don't want to play with someone, we'd like to know that as well.

6.  If you need to reserve golf clubs, they'll probably run you about $50 each day, give or take.  $150 for three rounds vs. paying the airline $100 ++ all the headaches of carrying them through airports, back and forth.  Call the golf courses directly if you would and make your own reservation for renting clubs.  Courses are under "GOLF" on the website.

7.  Our "nights out" for the package dinners are the only events you need to look "a little dressier."  "Resort casual," I think is the term.  Guys should wear Hawaiian-appropriate clothing, i.e. Hawaiian shirts are perfect, but NO SHORTS and FLIPFLOPS when we're doing dinner as a group.  Ladies, I'm not one to give fashion advice.  Just no jeans or halter tops when we're having dinner.  (Ha! I simply cannot resist working "halter tops" into my emails.  It's a habit I should soon stop!  As soon as they remove the term from golf scorecards I will.)  Just dress to impress the guys and we'll (try to) do likewise.

8.  When you get to the hotel, you'll want to get your room key and get settled into your room.  On Saturday between 4pm and 7pm, I will have registration open.  As in many years past, registration will be in my room which has some extra space to lay out your nametags, Program and Pairings Guides, mai tais (umbrellas included), and a welcoming gift for you (something good, something edible that should last you the week) and some free bottled waters.  I typically pick-up about 8 cases of water at Costco before coming to the hotel so you're not forced to buy those $5.00 bottle of Fuji water in your room.  The mai tais are made with dark rum and POG (passion, orange and guava juice), a local favorite.  You're welcome to hang out at Tom's Registration Retreat until the sun goes down.

9.  I hope by now many of you have had a chance to check out the excursions that you can experience while in Maui.  On Sunday morning, we'll gather at some place in the hotel and someone from concierge will meet with us to discuss excursion possibilities and actually sign you up at the point.  You can charge those things to your room.

NOTE THAT IF YOU ARE ROOMING WITH SOMEONE . . . keep track of who's putting what on the room in terms of room charges.  Settle-up before you check out.  We don't enjoy having disputes come our way after everyone's gone home.

10.  Please don't forget to let me know if you're renting a car and how many people you're willing to take.  Back with you in a couple of days!

Hi Folks -

This is my SECOND "pre-event" update on our Hawaii trip Feb. 18-25.  Expect another one this coming Friday which will include the pairings for the golf events.

1.  If you're wanting to rent clubs, check out Jimmy's Golf Rentals.  $100.00 for the entire week regardless of how many rounds you play.  Clubs look nice on his website:  http://JimmysMauiGolfRentals.com/

You "might" get an additional 10% discount if you mention ASGA per one of our members who's already rented clubs with Jimmy.  Apparently, they'll deliver and pick-up the clubs to the hotel.

2.  I know there are some coming into Hawaii a couple of days early and others are coming in on our "first" event day, Saturday, Feb. 18, and even late that night.  As noted earlier, I will utilize my enlarged room the hotel is providing to me as Tom's Registration Retreat, open from 4-7pm Saturday.  Depending on my degree of hunger, I may grab a bite somewhere but I'll return to the room later if you need to get your nametag, program, etc.  Feel free to text me at 704-577-9481 to see if I'm in my room.  Otherwise, we'll gather on Sunday morning off the hotel lobby for our first time as a group to listen to a presentation on the types of optional excursions you can enjoy whilst in Hawaii.  At that point, you can also pick-up those registration goodies.  Details on that gathering on Friday's email to you.

3. I mentioned the idea of people sharing rides.  Here's the deal folks:  There are several people who have room in the car they are renting, as follows:

ELLEN MACDONALD - can take 3 more people = 4

HANK PARISH - can take 2 more = 3

LEESA WEISS - can take 3 more = 4

JOHN LUTES - can take 3 more = 4

KATHY BURNS - can take 3 more = 4

REBECCA BRANSON - can take 3 more = 4

MARLENE HAMMOND - can take 2 more = 3

This adds up to 26 people who have a way to move around.  Is there anyone else who will have room in their car and can give a ride?  Let me now by return email.

Although your fellow member who has rented a car will be nice and probably not say anything to you, be prepared to help defer the cost of operating a car in Hawaii.  In addition to the actual car rental, there is a $22+tax "self-parking" fee at the hotel per day and then there's gasoline which runs a bit over $4.00 per gallon.  I would suggest riding with the same person each day and asking how you can help split the cost.  If you think taking a taxi is less expensive, then go that route.  Will you be riding with someone on days we don't play golf, i.e. going shopping or driving through the rain forest, etc.  But work out what you think is a fair amount and split the costs accordingly.  I can't give you a number.

If you can give a ride or need to find a ride, you'll need to be at the gathering on Sunday morning to determine who you're going to ride with.  This is very important!  We don't want to leave anyone behind.  If you cannot find a ride, be sure to load-up the UBER app on your smart phone and/or call a taxi.  Most of the places we go are less than 12 miles away.  If I recall, the town of Lahaina is about 11 miles away and we'll have dinner there at least one night.

4. Speaking of rides, if you're not renting a car, we recommend getting to the hotel with Speedi Shuttle.  www.SpeediShuttle.com or email - maui@speedishuttle.com   I've contacted them and their rate is $80.45 one-way to Kapalua, $152.86 round trip. It's about an hour's drive.  If you have a fellow member traveling with you, the rate goes up to about $87.09 for two one-way and $165.47 round trip.  So you can split it the difference.  Golf bags are $10 extra each way.  Contact SpeediShuttle for details, booking, etc.

Who's arriving at the same time you are?  Use the FORUM link on the top of the Hawaii website to share your arrival information at OGG airport and this might allow you to share a ride with another member.

5.  If you purchased trip insurance (travel protection), please let me know.  Be sure to BRING YOUR POLICY WITH YOU!  I understand there are four of you but there might be more.

6.  One member notified me of this information relative to protecting yourself and your property:

  • Leave nothing in the rental cars wherever they are parked.
  • The new scanner technology today allows the crooks to be anywhere in parking lots or on the street to scan for the car's key fob signal broadcast and capture its codes that unlock the car.
  • Many of the car thefts or break-ins today show no damage from the car break-ins! It's been reported on TripAdvisor.com, these criminals like to hang around Costco and break into cars while people shop after they've arrived on the island. As we all know Costco is near the airport on Oahu & Maui.
  • Carry a copy of your travel protection policy (trip insurance) if you purchased it.
  • If you're renting a car, you should also carry a copy of your car's collision & liability insurance policy and/or contact your current car insurance agent to make certain you're covered for the things you want to be covered for while in Hawaii.

And as a courtesy to all of us, if you're going to head out by yourself to explore the island, the whales or the food by yourself, please either let me or someone else know where you're going.  We don't want anyone jumping off a cliff or doing something crazy . . . at least until we can grab our cameras and capture the moment.

7.  At all events, I carry on my person the emergency contact numbers you have given us when you register for the event.  If you skipped over this (and this is up to you), please email your emergency contact name and their phone number to Irene@SinglesGolf.com and she'll put it on the form I carry with me.  If something happens to you while in Hawaii, I'd like to know who to contact.

8.  As mentioned in Monday's email, Marcella Da Massa passed away this past Saturday night.  She was signed-up for this trip.  We will miss Marcella very much.  One night, when we're all gathered for dinner, let's remember to give Marcella a big toast, one she can hear in Heaven!  That would put a big smile on her face no doubt.  And just as a side note, we informed her daughter, Lisa, that we credited Marcella's trip back onto her credit card today.)

9.  This is a repeat notice from Monday's email as I don't think it registered with a lot of folks:

On the top portion of the website (www.SinglesGolf.com/Hawaii), you will see where we have posted a FORUM link.  We used this in Spain and it worked well.  Essentially, when you click on the link, you can email fellow attendees.  You can create new topics.  I have already created some topics such as sharing a ride, what optional excursions would you like to go on, etc.  It's for YOU GUYS TO TALK TO EACH OTHER.

(I've noticed that only 3-4 people have used this FORUM page to talk to other attendees.  Please feel free to post your comments, wonderments, things you've learned, etc.)

10.  A link in the email that went out Monday, I incorrectly added an extra "o" to a website.  The correct website for this event is www.SinglesGolf.com/Hawaii

11.  As before, all emails can be reviewed by going to the event website and clicking on the Email/Updates green tab on the left side of this page:  www.SinglesGolf.com/Hawaii

12.  Guys . . . did you order your "nice Hawaiian shirts" yet?  Amazon has some good deals:  https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=hawaiian+shirts

Please remember the things your Mother told you about dressing nicely!

Hi Guys -

As promised, here is an update on things relative to our Hawaii trip:

1.  Below is a link to a chart showing who you will play with during our three (3) rounds in Hawaii.  We are a singles organization but nature has provided more women at this event than men, in fact 38 women and 14 men.  With 52 players, we had 13 foursomes.  One foursome wanted to play together as a foursome each day there ended-up being one foursome with four women.  As previous attendees know, we do our best to pair people who want to play with each other and that request generally takes precedence over other requests.  We want people to be happy!

The purpose of sending this TENTATIVE pairings chart to you ahead of time is a) to make certain we have you paired with the person you requested and b) that we haven't paired you with someone more than once by accidenet.  It looks like a simple task but unless you've done pairings before, you can almost go blind in the process.  If you see a mistake or we have not done something right, NOW IS THE TIME for all good golfers to come to the aide of their event host, and that would be me.  DEADLINE TO MAKE ANY CHANGE REQUESTS would be 5:00pm on Tuesday (eastern time).

Here's the link:  www.SinglesGolf.com/HawaiiPairings-Tentative

2.  PROGRAM AND PAIRINGS GUIDE - This is the booklet you'll receive at the event but you'll also get a proof copy on Tuesday.  You'll have until Wednesday, midnight to make any changes to the booklet.  Then we go to print and changes can no longer be made.

3.  UPDATE ON ATTENDEES RENTING & SHARING CARS:  These people have agreed to all others to ride with them to various venues.  Although there is a resort shuttle, it's best to use a car if you can as they're will be less time waiting.  If you're renting a car and can take some bodies around, please give me your name and the amount of people you can take (allowing room for extra golf bags as well):

It appears we can take care of 40 people so far.

ELLEN MACDONALD - can take 3 more people = 4
HANK PARISH - can take 2 more = 3
LEESA WEISS - can take 3 more = 4
JOHN LUTES - can take 3 more = 4
KATHY BURNS - can take 3 more = 4
REBECCA BRANSON - can take 3 more = 4
MARLENE HAMMOND - can take 2 more = 3
LINDA WHITE/BOBBI RISH - can take 2 more = 4
GAIL CAMPBELL - can take 2 more = 3
CORINNE CULLISON - can take 1 more = 2
JOE HUTTON - can take 1 more = 2
NANCY HAVEN - can take 2 more = 3

4.  Remember, if you've not been checking your emails, you can go to the event website (www.SinglesGolf.com/Hawaii) and review the first two (2) emails.  Another email will go out on Tuesday and a final one on Thursday of next week.  I plan to personally arrive in Hawaii on Friday.  It wouldn't hurt for everyone to put my cell phone number in their phone: 704-577-9481.  Call or text to that number.

Have a great weekend, playing golf or scraping snow!

Subject: ASGA in Hawaii - fourth of many updates

Hi Guys -

This is my FOURTH update and the last update will be this coming Thursday.  I leave to Hawaii Friday.  Once you get to Hawaii, you'll receive a printed version of the Program and Pairings Guide which will tell you who you're playing with, etc.

And . . . before I forget it, Happy Valentine's Day to each of you.  A box of chocolates for each of you once you arrive in Maui!  And, as you know, life IS like a box of chocolates.

Now, some miscellaneous things:

1.  Remember to chat back and forth with fellow attendees by going to:  http://www.singlesgolf.com/event_forum.php?feid=37

Many folks are using this to link-up rides and offer suggestions.  You'll need to log in to use this forum page.

2.  Got this note from an attendee a few days ago:  "We just left Maui yesterday and used Uber all over the Island day and night with no problems. Fast, excellent service. The drivers cannot pick you up from the airport but our last driver told us to walk to the cell phone parking lot. One person can do that to be picked up. Have others stay at the airport with luggage. They are allowed to pick up at baggage claim as long as one person is in the Uber car."

3. Checklist of things to bring to Hawaii other than your SPF 3000:  http://www.govisithawaii.com/2007/07/23/what-to-pack-for-your-hawaii-vacation/

4. You might want to bring 20 one dollar bills just for tipping purpose or, in case we play Left-Right-Center one day.

5. Not that this is that important, but bring your phone charger, car charger, GPS device, etc.  Wi-Fi is included for free in your room IF AND ONLY IF you go to www.MarriottRewards.com and sign-up.  This is a quick process and worth the time invested to get free Wi-Fi at the hotel.  And be sure to give them YOUR REWARDS NUMBER when you check-in at the front desk.

6. If you're renting a car, you may need to contact your insurance agent and see if your auto policy covers your car rental.  You may also need to bring that policy with you.

7. If you're renting golf clubs, be sure to bring your golf glove, balls, tees, foot wedge, Band-Aids, your game, etc.  If you are bringing your own clubs, clean-out your bag with those old tubes of lip stick, training aides, range balls you stole, etc.  If you have clubs you never use, why haul them to Hawaii and back?  Someone asked me the other day if the golf courses have pencils with erasers.  Why would they want to know that?

8. Something to think about while en route:  if the ball always breaks towards the water, which way does it break when you're playing on an island?

9. The link below goes to the final pairings. Again, if you see yourself paired with another person twice (and you didn't request it), please let me know.  I've made 4-5 changes since you saw the original pairings.  Deadline to fix anything is noon, eastern time, tomorrow (Wednesday).

(Note: this is an updated version of the earlier version of pairings sent to you last week. Changes have been made.)

10. The final copy of the Program and Pairings Guide will be available to you as a PDF by going to the event website, www.SinglesGolf.com/Hawaii and going into the left tab that says Emails/Updates.  There you will see all past emails (that you should read) and a link to the PDF of the Program and Pairings Guide.  That won't be posted until Thursday.

11. I will sell 50/50 raffle tickets at the event.  $20 for 20 tickets.  No single tickets sold.  23 people have already purchased so that's $460 in the pot.  The pot is split with two (2) drawings, each winner getting half of the pot. This will occur at our final night (Friday).

12.  Here is the list of people who can give rides.  We'll hook-up Sunday morning as a group and you'll be able to meet your driver/riders.  Remember, riders, please share in the cost of the car rental with your driver.  Work this out on your own.

FOLKS WITH CARS = so far 42 people are taken care of:

ELLEN MACDONALD - can take 3 more people = 4
HANK PARISH - can take 2 more = 3
LEESA WEISS - can take 3 more = 4
JOHN LUTES - can take 3 more = 4
KATHY BURNS - can take 3 more = 4
REBECCA BRANSON - can take 3 more = 4
MARLENE HAMMOND - can take 2 more = 3
LINDA WHITE/BOBBI RISH - can take 2 more = 4
GAIL CAMPBELL - can take 2 more = 3
JANET WICKA / CORINNE CULLISON - can take 2 more = 4
JOE HUTTON - can take 1 more = 2
NANCY HAVEN - can take 2 more = 3

13.  Feel free to write back or text me at the below number if you have any questions or want to mention something that you might find helpful to everyone attending this event.

Hi Guys -

This is my last email going to you prior to seeing you in Maui.  I think I've said all the things that have to be said in my previous emails.  Attached is the version of the Program and Pairings Guide - - a hard copy (printed) version will be given to you once you arrive at the event, or by Sunday morning if I don't see you Saturday, from 4-7pm.  At that time, you can drop by my enlarged room where you'll pick-up the Program as well as your name tag, grab a mai tai or two and the coveted box of chocolate covered macadamia nuts.

There has been some changes to the Program so please don't go by the one sent out a couple of days ago.

Mai Tai's are made with Meyer's Dark Rum and POG (passion, orange and guava juices) and served on the rocks with a cute parasail.  Before heading in tomorrow night, I'll stop at Costco (near the airport) and pick-up several cases of water for your complimentary consumption.

Back to the Program.  It's printed so if there's any pairing issue you have, we'll discuss it when you get there.  PLEASE REVIEW pages 13-15 as these are the optional excursion activities that Danny Sikes will be going over.  He will make his presentation Sunday morning so you would definitely want to be there.  LOCATION:  Kapalua Bay Clubhouse - Pineapple Grill room - - optional $15.00 breakfast - - 8:00am.  Danny should be there around 8:30am.  You can book and pay for your excursion on the spot.  And the hotel runs a shuttle over to the Pineapple Grill, which is about a mile from the hotel front door.

One last thing about the Pineapple Grill.  Think about this, for $15 each morning you can have a made-to-order breakfast.  It's NOT the $48 fancy-schmancy (my spell checker is going crazy) breakfast that the Terrace room at the Ritz has but you ought to at least try the Terrace room once.  You have $288 in food and beverage credit in your name so use it wisely!  Because the Pineapple Grill is not part of the Ritz-Carlton (but part of the Resort), your credit is not good there.

If you forgot to purchase mulligans, see me Monday before our first round.  More raffle tickets will be sold at some point when we've gathered.

I arrive at OGG Airport in Maui at 4:30pm tomorrow (Friday), renting a car, stopping by Costco then up to the hotel mostly likely around 6pm.  If anyone's at the airport around that time, text me and you can hop a ride with me.

Finally, be sure to ask for my room number when you get there (I don't know it yet).  Registration is 4-7pm Saturday.  If you get in after that, I'll have your nametag and Program at the Sunday morning gathering.  Sunday is the time where 99% of us will be so please try to make it, 8am to 10pm, breakfast AND excursion presentation.

And finally for real, put my cell phone in your phone.  Hawaii is part of the USA in case you didn't get the word so your cell phone should work well there.

Safe travels to everyone unless you're one of the few already there!

Hotel

We'll be staying at the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, Maui.  Without question, the most beautiful hotel on the island of Maui.  The grounds are well manicured, the views are second to none and the hotel is pristine.  You will love you room!

We have what's known as ROH rooms - - "run of house."  That means in order to secure our best rates, the hotel can utilize any of their beautiful rooms for our attendees.  The better our rates, the more attendees we're likely to have at the event.

ASGA has negotiated a rate that is FIFTY-PERCENT (50%) LOWER than what the Ritz-Carlton has posted on their website.  As of 11/10/16, the rate posted was $847 + a $35.00 resort service fee + 13.0416 sales tax, totalling $997 per night!

To visit the hotel's website, go here.   If you have any questions about the amenities at the hotel, please contact the hotel directly.

Golf

We will play the Bay and Plantation Courses at Kapalua and the Royal Ka'anapali Course at Ka'anapali.

From Expedia.com . . .

Find some of the nation's best golfing amid Maui's beautiful scenery as you play through a tournament-level course. Play through the generous greens of the Bay Course or admire the wide fairways of the grand Plantation Course, and retrace the footsteps of some masters of the sport.

Bay Course

Designed by golf legend Arnold Palmer with architect Francis Duane, this 6,600-yard course has hosted more major professional tournaments than any other in Hawaii. Its gently rolling fairways have been a fixture in competitions since golf's first live primetime televised event in 1983.

On hole 4, tee off from a lava peninsula between a pair of pristine bays. Hole 5 requires you to play across Oneloa Bay bay to a small green protected by bunkers, making it the only hole on the island where you play straight over the ocean.

Plantation Course

Set on the slopes of the West Maui Mountains, this course challenges professional and average golfers alike. Tee off from a high elevation that provides plenty of downhill tee shots, wide fairways, and the chance to hit one of the longest drives of your life along the 18th fairway.

Designed by golf-course masterminds Ben Crenshaw and Bill Coore, the course was ranked No. 1 in Hawaii by Golf Digest. This grand scale and ocean views from every hole earned it a place on the PGA Tour; the course also hosts the annual Hyundai Tournament, drawing professionals including Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Justin Leonard, and Ernie Els.

Click here for Kapalua's Golf Website.

Royal Ka'anapali Course

The Royal Ka'anapali Course opened its lush fairways in 1962, offering 6,700 yards and a par 71 course. The course is one of only two courses in all of Hawaii designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. who took advantage of the rolling landscape to create gently sloping fairways and large contoured greens to ensure a challenging approach to each hole.

The Royal Kaanapali Course begins at sea level and runs along the shoreline before winding its way to the West Maui Mountain foothills. The 449 yard 18th hole plays longer than it looks, and hugging the water canal the entire length of the fairway and green, makes it a memorable last hole.

Excursions

Excursions are those activities that might include whale watching, a mountain bike ride, scuba and other water activities, helicopter rides, etc.  There is a link towards the bottom of this page that encompasses all of the possible things you can do, so please review them prior to heading to Hawaii.  Think about what you'd like to do on your non-golf days of Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.

At a time when we've all arrived, we'll provide the opportunity to attend an excursion activity briefing run by an expert in the excursion business in Maui.  Here, you'll see what all is offered, some details about each excursion, costs, etc.  You'll have some idea if others in the group are interested in the same excursion.

The excursion company making the presentation is offering ASGA attendees a reduced rate because we're sending them all of our business.  None of this prevents you from booking something online before you even set foot in Hawaii.

Excursion companies pick-up all customers from various hotels so typically, no transportation is needed on your part.

Begin some research on things you might want to do by going to the link below for ideas, costs, etc.  Excursions are optional and pre-payment to the excursion company / agent is required generally when you purchase the voucher at the hotel.

Finally, many excursion companies will pick you up VERY EARLY in the morning, as early as 4:30am.  Don't hesitate to ask as many questions at the briefing.

So to get a good idea of what's available to you, go here for things to do in Maui.

Travel Protection

Travel protection is something everyone should look at and evaluate.  It is an optional cost.  It can cover the package cost of your trip paid to ASGA as well as airfare and other expenses outside these packages, such as car rental.

If you would like to have your airline ticket or other expenses covered, you'll need to purchase additional trip insurance so be sure to indicate your total trip amount when purchasing trip insurance.

Group Travel Insurance is provided through TravelSafe, Underwritten by United States Fire Insurance company, rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best Rating Agency.

ALL ATTENDEES MUST SIGN-UP INDIVIDUALLY for the trip insurance if you want it. You are never automatically covered nor is it included in the cost of this event.

Trip insurance IS NOT INCLUDED in the price of your package, however, if you purchase trip insurance, you MUST activate it by completing a short form that the insurance carrier needs for you to complete. Go to the TRIP INSURANCE tab at the left to complete this process.

Please GO HERE and sign-up for trip insurance AS WELL AS purchasing any additional insurance you might require to cover your airline ticket, car rental, etc.

If you have any concerns or questions, please contact ASGA's trip insurance provider, David Johnston with Johnston Group Travel, at David@JohnstonGroupTravel.com or call him at 630-307-0706.
